Welcome to GHOSTED! The dating app for our underground side of the world. Allow us to fulfill all your haunting desires. Who knows what you might attract.

Arya Livingston has been ghosted one too many times, and the latest ghosting hurt the most. She's too much, too clingy, too odd for love—or at least that’s what she believes. That is, until she stumbles upon a buzzy new dating app, GHOSTED, and matches with the only guy who actually has a photo: Maverick Forrester. But there’s something off about him. He’s not like other guys—he refuses to even answer a simple FaceTime call.

When Arya’s biological mom mysteriously goes missing during an alumni talk on campus, and Arya discovers she's a legacy of the top sorority, Phantom Kappa Nu, it ignites a fire in her to become an official sorority sister. But there’s one problem—due to a string of campus disappearances and supernatural activity, a new rule has been implemented this year: all pledges require a partner for initiation week (for safety, of course).

With no other prospects, Arya accepts Mavericks’s offer to be her partner. But he turns out to be a rather ominous challenge. He’s not exactly human or even alive. And as initiation week forces them closer together, it becomes harder to deny their growing feelings. They both begin to question whether their relationship is even possible…or if they’re simply on borrowed time.

Review

When Arya is ghosted by Zayne, a guy she's dated a little, she decides to try an app named "Ghosted." What happens next is a fun romp between the paranormal and the normal, or at least as normal as a student in her major is.

This isn't your standard paranormal romance trope. It doesn't have the normal shifters or elves that one might expect. The blurb promises a ride full of twists and turns, and the plot doesn't disappoint.

I liked how Arya is relatable with a dash of weird. She's awesome; she has a great personality, and I was invested in her narrative. I have to admit that Maverick's character was a bit old-fashioned. I didn't love him, but I didn't dislike him. He appreciates Arya's opinions and her self-reliance, but he doesn't quite fit the mold one would expect. I can't say much more because I'd spoil the plot, but he comes across as someone from the 1950s.

The plot gets a little heavy at times, which brings the tone down a couple of notches. When you get to that point, don't give up on the book because the tone lightens up. The romance in the plot isn't squeaky clean, but it's not spicy.

I enjoyed Ghosted, and I'd happily read another paranormal romance by Alexis Jacklin again.
