Review

This book may be all about vampires, but it has a variety of genres in it: mystery, romance, contemporary fiction, and fiction inspired by the classics. All of the stories had interesting plots and characters, and they were all exquisite in their own, unique ways.

There were three stories that stood out from the rest:

Licensed To Kill by Devorah Fox is a mystery story, in my opinion. Siblings Gretel and Hans own a pest control business that offers to remove normal and paranormal pests. When a local Alpaca farmer turns to them to find out what has attacked one of his Alpacas, it's up to Gretel to find out.

I liked this story because it's something different and unexpected. How many times have you read about a pest control business that takes care of normal and paranormal pests? The character development is great for a short story. My favorite character is Greta because she is clever and resourceful.

The plot is definitely unique and I wish that this was a prequel to a series; however, it is not.

Don't Take Any Wooden Dimes by Lisa Jayne Walden is what I'd categorize as a contemporary fiction story. Dempsey is missing his wife terribly after she went away, so he has taken it upon himself to look for the love of his life. His search leads him to a startling place and the reunion with his wife isn't all that he had hoped it would be.

No, my summarization of the plot hasn't spoiled it, trust me. The plot was unpredictable and startling. You'll discover that Dempsey isn't the person you thought he was and that his circumstances are all his doing. Considering how short the story was, it was an enthralling read.

Shadows Of Blood by Aimee Shaye is a story that combines mythology with an old classic, Dracula. Decimus has been waiting 6 years for the love of his undead life to be reincarnated and remember him. This is the 7th year and his love must remember who she is and what she is; otherwise, they will never be together for the rest of eternity.

I loved the mythology in this book. Mythology from two different cultures that you think would clash actually work well together. The character development in this story was perfect. The underlying plot, while a true classic undead romance, had a unique and contemporary twist. I loved reading this story and kind of wish that it didn't have to end.
